Most tiny homes are on wheels and can be transported to any location, provided the towing vehicle can get them there. Some tiny houses don’t quite fit the usual mode, though. The 5th wheel tiny house gives just that little bit more than other tiny houses.
A 5th wheel tiny house is also known as a ‘gooseneck’ tiny house. This is because it is built in the style of a gooseneck trailer, which is not quite rectangular, but has an extension that can fit over the back of the towing vehicle. Think about the profile of the tiny house as being a rectangle with a piece that sticks out from the top section. This gives the feeling of a limited second storey to the house. The space is often used as a bedroom.
The biggest advantage of a 5th wheel tiny house is that there is more space. The greatest disadvantage is that it can’t be towed by any vehicle. You will need to make sure the towing vehicle is adapted to tow a gooseneck trailer. This means that the extension must fit over the back of the towing vehicle.

One of the smallest 5th wheel tiny houses is the ‘Whittle Wagon’ Tiny House, which is built on a 24 ft (2.2 m) trailer.
At the other end of the scale, is the Canada Goose by Mint Tiny Homes, which is built on a 42 ft (13 m) gooseneck trailer.
The average 5th wheel tiny house is built on a 34 ft (10 m) gooseneck trailer. This means that the house is about 340 sq ft (31 sq m).
What’s the largest tiny house on wheels?
There are two basic formats for the largest tiny houses on wheels: the standard, rectangular house; and the fifth well tiny house, with the gooseneck extension.
One of the largest of the tiny homes on wheels is the Denali XL by Timbercraft Tiny Homes, which is about 400 sq ft (37 sq m). This is a 5th wheel tiny house.
One of the biggest conventionally rectangular tiny houses on wheels, the Magnolia Tiny House by Minimaliste, is 425 sq ft (39 sq m).
What size trailer is best for a tiny house?
For a conventional, rectangular tiny house that is on wheels, the average sized trailer is about 22 ft (7 m) long and 90 inches (2,28 m) wide. This size trailer can be pulled by an average sized pick up, SUV or similar saloon car.
For a 5th wheel tiny house, a 34 ft (10 m) trailer is about average. This will usually give you a house of about 350 sq ft (32 sq m), which is the average size of a fairly spacious tiny home.
One of the biggest 5th wheeler tiny houses is on a 42 ft (13 m) trailer. This increases the size of the house to about 420 sq m (40 sq m), which is quite a substantial size for a tiny home.Bear in mind that some of the space of the main part of a 5th wheel tiny home is lost, because there has to be a space for the gooseneck to fit over the back of the towing vehicle.
