Most tiny houses are rectangular in design. The overall living area can be extended by making some adjustments to this shape. Some tiny hoses have a verandah attached, while others may have a section added on. A gooseneck tiny house is different in that it has a built-in extension that offers an innovative use of slightly more space. This makes it a spacious tiny house that can be transported.

What is a gooseneck tiny house?

Some tiny houses are built on trailers, which means they can be transported fairly easily.  The trailers that are used are usually flatbed, rectangular structures that have a bumper hitch. This makes a tiny house quite versatile, as it can be towed by just about any vehicle that is strong enough.

Some tiny houses are built on gooseneck trailers. These trailers have a forward section that extends from the rectangular bulk of the trailer into an arch. Under this arch is the towing mechanism. A gooseneck trailer can only be towed by a vehicle that has a hitch in the back of the body. The gooseneck extends over the vehicle itself and the hitch fits down onto the coupling mechanism.

A gooseneck tiny house is built on a gooseneck trailer. The design means that the house has an elevated section that extends beyond the main part of the house. It is effectively a limited upper area.

How big are gooseneck tiny houses?

Gooseneck trailers are mostly quite long, so tiny houses built on these trailers are usually the bigger tiny houses. A relatively small gooseneck tiny house is built on a 24 ft (7,3 m), which means it will have an area of about 240 sq ft (22,3 sq m).

A long gooseneck trailer can be 40 – 42 feet (12 – 13 m). This would mean a house built on that trailer will have an area of about 400 sq ft (37 sq m).

One of the largest gooseneck tiny houses that has been built on a 45 ft (13,7 m) gooseneck trailer, giving it an overall size of nearly over 400 sq ft (37 sq m).

What is a gooseneck bedroom?

The biggest advantage of a gooseneck tiny house is space. The gooseneck section is higher than the rest of the house and extends beyond it. This makes it an extra space that does not impinge on anything else in the house. The space is often used as a bedroom, which has more height than the loft bedroom characteristic of most tiny houses.

An added advantage of this gooseneck bedroom is that it can be closed off with some kind of door, or at least a curtain. Thus, a gooseneck bedroom means more privacy and more versatility in a tiny home.

Can a gooseneck tiny home be extended?

It is possible to add sections to a tiny house that slide out. This adds to the living space in the trailer. If you add slide outs to a gooseneck tiny house, you will have quite a substantial amount of space in the house.

However, slide outs can also add weight to the trailer that the tiny house is built on. In this case, it may be safer and more sensible to avoid the additions.

If you want more space in an average gooseneck tiny house, rather build on a longer trailer.
