What is a Digital Nomad?

The concept of becoming a digital nomad was not physically possible even a few decades ago. In fact, it is incredibly challenging to pull off even five years ago or so. However, things have changed a lot since that time, and now the concept of becoming a digital nomad isn’t nearly as foreign or unheard of as it used to be. There are plenty of people who are embracing the digital nomad life, and many of those individuals have found great success and happiness in the lifestyle that they have created for themselves. 

Digital nomads are people who work strictly online. They aren’t tied down to any physical office building or space because they have a job that permits them to work via any Internet connection that they are able to find out there. Thus, they often congregate in places such as public libraries, coffee shops, Internet cafes, and even co-working spaces that are specifically set up to be used by these nomads. As long as their Internet connection is stable, they can work from virtually anywhere. 

The ability to work from anywhere is a big part of the appeal of the digital nomad lifestyle. They aren’t tied to any physical arena, so they can easily travel around the country, or even around the world as much as they want to. Their future is entirely up to them, and they are only obligated to put in the hours that they need to put in to get their work done. 

Types of Work Performed by Digital Nomads

Digital nomads do all different types of work these days. Plenty of companies have moved to a work-from-home model for their employees, so it is not terribly surprising to learn that digital nomads engage in all different types of work. Some of them may work for traditional companies and have an employment agreement with those companies that allows them to work from home. However, there are others who work for themselves as a business owner or even in a freelance capacity for some other company. 

No matter what, the most important thing to remember is that digital nomads are able to have a lot more flexibility in the work that they do because they are not tied down to any specific place. 

Examples of the types of jobs sometimes performed by digital nomads include: 

• Virtual assistant
• Blogger
• Programmer
• Writer
• Social media influencer

All of these jobs can be done effectively without having to physically be around other people. Thus, many choose to take the freedom that they have to work remotely and use it to enjoy large sections of the country and the planet that they had not otherwise had the chance to see.

A digital nomad may be responsible for taking care of things such as paying their own taxes out of their earnings or paying for an RV or similar vehicle that they can take around with them wherever they go to get work done. This is important because not everyone is up to the task of being organized enough to handle all of this. Thus, the digital nomad life may not be right for everyone. Still, it is something to look into if you have ever been interested in getting out and exploring more of the wide world around you. No one can blame you for wanting to take an adventure every now and then.
